Almost a year ago Portia officially joined the Tanda Tula team, overseeing our quaint but beautiful spa. However, as the wife of Forman and mother of Allied and Jayden it is safe to say she has really been part of the family for over 15 years.
Portia’s attentive, smiley and professional manner makes her a great therapist – and that is before she has even started the treatment. She takes great pride in how she looks and how her spa presents itself to her guests, she loves the beautiful smells from the products mixed along with the sights and sounds of all the animals that come down to camp dam to quench their thirst during her treatments.
This beautiful lady tells us her favourite treatment is a deep tissue massage which helps to gently stimulate the lymphatic system, which is beneficial to the body in many ways. She also points out how massage can reduce swelling, improve muscle strength, and support overall healing and well-being.
Portia loves being a spa therapist and working at the Tanda Tula spa, a quiet space nestled away from busy camp life. She says the best part of her job is meeting the guests and working with people, being able to help and contribute to the enjoyment of our guest’s safari experience, it gives her great joy and fulfillment.
The opportunity to train as a spa therapist and head up the Tanda Tula spa only presented itself when we rebuilt and opened the new Safari Camp in 2023. Before that Portia had worked in a variety of positions at other lodges in the Timbavati, but this camp had always been her home. With Forman, one of the directors and General Manager, as well as her two boys, both part of our Foundation Education Program, living and working at this camp seemed the obvious next progression for her.
We are thrilled to have Portia on the team, she works hard, but feels as though she totally reaps the rewards when she sees the joy and comfort she brings to the guests. So, make sure to visit our spa and treat yourself to a treatment next time you come on safari with us.
