We are very excited to announce that one of our well known and loved guides, Civilized, has been nominated to compete in this year’s Safari Guide of the Year competition!
The title is awarded yearly by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) and will take place at the end of June this year. The competition takes place over a six day period and is made up of only six guides who are judged accordingly by a top-class panel of industry professionals. The competition is made up of the following components: game drive and walks, birding and tracking assessments, advanced rifle handling and storytelling.
Civilized has also had to answer an extensive questionnaire in order to be nominated for this prestigious award. We thought it would be interesting to share some of the more telling questions, along with his answers, with you:
What has FGASA done for you in terms of qualifications and achievements?
Through FGASA I have achieved Trails Guide Qualification and Level 2. This has inspired me to learn and keep growing in the field of guiding. It played an important role in me having a long-term career, but it also encourage me to help others who want to grow in Field Guiding and then trackers who want to become Guides, too.
What is the best thing about being a guide?
Being a guide is doing something that I love every day as well as discovering a passion for living. Being a guide also allows me to share knowledge and experience with others.
What is your greatest personal strength?
I think I have the ability to make people feel comfortable and safe around me. I am always respectful and willing to help wherever it is needed.
FGASA has always set incredibly high standards within the guiding industry so just to be nominated to compete in this event and make it through the interview process is a huge achievement We are incredibly proud of Civilized and can’t wait for him to partake in this prestigious competition.
