The last of the guests had just gone to bed when the territory calls echoed down the dry riverbed.
The big boys were back in the area, and they wanted everyone to know! It was decided there and then that the morning drive would be about tracking lions.
We knew there were some intruders in the area- the neighboring Ross pride had been feasting on a kill the previous day. We set off to find them first. It took nearly an hour, but our patience paid off and we found three of the pride, two females and a young male, hunkered down in the tall grass, hiding.
They took turns popping up their heads, looking around and sniffing the air nervously. After about ten minutes, they decided to make a run for it. Apparently we weren’t the only ones who had heard the calls last night.
As it turns out, they could have relaxed a while. We found the two males nearby, but their bellies were full and they were settling in for a good long nap.
