Sighting of the “Ghost”

"Ghost"

In our last Tanda Tula Safari Camp blog entry, we wrote about the elusive large male leopard aptly nicknamed the “ghost”, a magnificent male who has proven to be extremely difficult to find.

On each chance encounter with this mysterious creature we have not been prepared, and have only managed to get one photo of him from our camera trap, located a short distance from our safari camp. Well, I am happy to announce that this time, I was prepared for our next encounter, and managed to take a quick couple of photos of him.

He had brought down a massive warthog and not managed to move the carcass far, so he had hidden it under some small brush to keep it from the prying eyes of vultures who may have alerted various other predators to the kill. He did not appear pleased about being caught out in the open and at first lay flat in the grass.

We parked the vehicle a fair distance off, and eventually our patience was rewarded as he relaxed and finally stood up and surveyed the surrounding bush. What a wonderful, one of a kind sight!

This was a moment that will stay with me for a long time. We hope to bring you more news on this large male that calls Tanda Tula Safari Camp home, and with a bit of luck, some more photos!
