Huge Bull Elephant Spotted Outside Camp

Over the last week large herds of elephant have been seen in and around our safari camp. The watering hole within the camp, as well as the riverbed which the camp overlooks, has provided our guest’s with hours of wonderful game viewing. Seeing the big five close to camp is always an exciting experience for our guests.

Recently, one particularly large elephant bull stood out head and shoulders above the rest. He was an absolute beauty. I managed to get a picture of the bull with a vehicle a short distance behind him. In the picture you will see how he completely dwarfed the vehicle! He looked to be around fifty years of age and had a magnificent set of tusks. He was in musth and was making his way through the herd looking for any receptive cows.

In the same herd was a young calf who was dead set on showing us he too was going to be a large bull one day. All four foot of him bravely charged the vehicle with ears spread, making quite an impression on the guests. Instead of shrieks of panic there were only soft ‘coos’ and ‘aaahhs’. He was a real little character.
