Unknown Lionesses On The Prowl

There has been great excitement at Tanda Tula this past week as we have frequently stumbled across two unknown lionesses.

Both females are in their prime, strong and in good condition. They are ready to set up a new territory and begin breeding, which is fantastic news for the entire Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. They are clearly successful hunters as we often find them with bellies extended after a good meal and then a couple of days ago we watched them bring down a full grown buffalo and begin feeding. Watching a lion kill is always an exhilarating experience.

With the Timbavati being open to The Kruger National Park there are often nomadic animals moving through the area where our safari camp traverses. Sometimes they simply pass through, but at other times the animals decide to stay and fight it out for territory.

We really hope that these two beautiful lionesses settle here, meet up with the dominant males and start a new pride in the Timbavati. We will be watching them carefully.
