The White Sangoma

John Lockley is not exactly who you think he is when you first meet him, dressed casually in jeans and trainers, his sporty appearance would never let you think that this man is a qualified sangoma. He spent over 10 years with a Xhosa tribe in the Eastern Cape learning and training until he became a fully initiated sangoma, a healer and shaman. He is one of the first white men in recent history to become a sangoma, a remarkable feat considering he had all the constraints of Apartheid against him. This achievement is testament to the power of the human spirit, both in forgiveness and reconciliation.

John currently spends his time traveling the world giving talks and offering retreats where he shares his authentic indigenous beliefs and teachings, making them relevant to both personal issues and global problems that are applicable in our modern world. Through his teachings he helps to motivate positive change in both people and organisations.

John will be visiting Tanda Tula early next year with one of his retreat groups, where they will be drawing from the beauty of the natural surroundings in the Timbavati in order to practice dynamic mindfulness and create positive change for his guests.
