Elvis Leads The Way

Like most places in the Timbavati, Tanda Tula Safari Camp is surrounded by only an elephant fence. This allows game to easily move through the camp at any time during the day or night, and of course offers fantastic game viewing right in camp.

Our latest staff member, Elvis Mathebula, recently joined the team. He is the day and night porter, helping with the guest’s luggage on arrival and leading them safely to their tents in the dark after an evening safari. Although a local man, he comes from a nearby village and has actually spent most of his life working in the mines.

However, it was time for him to be nearer his wife and three children so he came back to his roots. Elvis is a large man with an infectious smile. Apparently he is not afraid of anything, which is a good thing considering he often bumps into leopard, hyena and hippo in the camp! His gentle way means he always remains calm and gets his guests through these unexpected African hazards with no fuss.
