It was an incredible afternoon of sightings yesterday; a big herd of buffalo, two steenboks, three kudu, a herd of wildebeest, a pair of rare ground hornbills, elephants enjoying the fresh spring leaves, and a leopard almost completely camouflaged in the tall grass. That was just in the first hour!
We followed that up with zebra, giraffes and a giant eagle owl nesting with her chicks. Then we got word that a white rhino was enjoying his afternoon drink at Impala Dam, so we went to join him. Turns out we weren’t the only ones- a herd of elephants soon joined us. One of the youngsters was only about a week old, and couldn’t quite figure out how to drink through his trunk. He eventually gave up, and knelt in the water to use his mouth. Next, a pair of hyenas joined the group. No one seemed to mind, and they all continued to enjoy a golden sunset and a cool drink of water.
