In all industries we are subject to the inevitability of the “dreaded trade show”….. 3 days of sore feet, bad coffee and irrelevant industry students stealing all of your expensive printed marketing materials! So it was with some apprehension that Nina and I embarked on our trip to the inaugural ‘We Are Africa’ travel show. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be!
This is a show that has returned the focus back to the original intention of the trade show concept – getting products and buyers together and getting them to talk to each other and generate new business. The show is on an invitation basis only and focuses only on luxury travel products and the luxury buyers….. so needless to say we felt priviledged to have been invited.
The format of the show is an entirely new focus of diarised meetings only, no fancy stands and “bread on the water” marketing – standing in the corridors and hoping to grab passers by. Tanda Tula was fortunate enough to be provided with a full diary, and we have spent the last 3 days meeting with the leading luxury buyers for the African travel market – a truly valuable and exciting experience for us and for Tanda Tula. We Are Africa has indeed been a breath of fresh air in the crowded mid-year “trade show period”, and we are happy that Tanda Tula is part of this New African Tribe.
We look forward to the next one!
